Good friends are hard to find, right?

I’m really going to try to do better with posting more on my blog. I’m terrible at this BEAUSE little things like adding pics to my blog can be such a headache. For the sake of my sanity and knowing what I need and SHOULD be doing, I’m going to really attempt to do better.
Now — what that being said…
This past weekend I had the opportunity to be a panelist at the Country Girls with Kinks Coils & Curls Natural Hair Meetup in Charleston, SC. Going to Charleston is always a plus for me, my fav gal lives there and I do some good eating and shopping in Charleston as well. If you’ve never visited, do yourself the favor and go!
I had a great time mixing and mingling with some of Charleston’s finest naturalistas!
I decided to wear this cute dress that I got from H&M in Atlanta last weekend. I’m trying to incorporate MORE color into my wardrobe. Though I AM admittedly a fashion warrior, I have a habit of keeping things kind of “safe” with black. That had a lot to do with me being heavier but now – OH HONEY – but now — I’m ready to BLAST out of my comfort zone and welcome color into my wardrobe with open arms. I have a PLETHORA of things to share with you, some fun additions added to my closet so, without further or do…
October was breast cancer awareness month – a month to remember, support and pay tribute to those who have breast cancer, know someone with breast cancer or lost someone with breast cancer.
In March, I had the opportunity to attend Charleston Fashion Week (CFW) not only as a patron but as a volunteer as well.
Least to say…I was IMPRESSED! From the celebrity panel (Cynthia Bailey, Fern Mallis, Ashanti, Antonio Azzuolo, Christian Siriano, Cynthia Rowley, Brandon Sun— to name a few) to the trend setters and fashonistas(os) in the Charleston area, and the fantastic creative collections from the emerging designers, CFW is definitely on my “to do” list EVERY year going forward.
This year’s event took place March 19-23 at beautiful Marion Square in downtown Charleston. The set up was absolutely fantastic. The tents, which took over half the park, reminded me so much of New York Fashion Week and the Style Lounge was decked out appropriately with vendors, trendsetters, DJs and a great bar!
What impressed me about CFW was not only how beautiful and organized it was, BUT the showcase of the emerging designers from across the country. The talent and creative minds of the emerging designers was hands down –IMPECCABLE. To be honest, I want to add to my wardrobe every single set that walked the runway—without a doubt.
The inspiration and creativity that comes from the minds of these designers are definitely worth being recognized. I am amazed at how a vision in their mind transforms into some of the most amazing, fashionable, and iconic pieces.
Of course every designer who presented did a FANTASTIC job but, I did have my favorites all of whom coincidentally won the People’s Choice award for the night they competed!
Please share in my excitement the People’s Choice award winners listed below.
- Wednesday: Cassidy Elizabeth-Mae Brown (Elizabeth Mae Designs)
- Thursday: Afriyie Pokue (Oberima Afriyie)
- Friday: Hope Wallace (Hope Wallace)
When I tell you ALL of the designers showed out, they showed out! To see a list of all the emerging designers and to view more pictures and video footage, check out CFW’s web site here.
Special congrats to Afryie Poku for winning the 2013 Emerging Designers contest – what a remarkable men’s line ~ check out Afriye’s amazing showcase!
On Thursday & Friday night, I attended the actual show and was able to capture some great pictures.
